Immigration into the Nordic countries: an overview presented by the Finnish, Danish and Swedish embassies
Dear SCANDISOC members,
Don't miss out on our first Speakers Event: an academically stimulating talk on the topic of migration into the Nordic countries. This will be followed by drinks and snacks in the Senior Common Room. Come and represent the society, ask lots of questions to the panel, mingle and enjoy the fine wine!

Week 11-13 News
Dear Members,
Here are a few upcoming events that might be of interest to you;
1. Informal drinks evening tonight in the Three Tuns from 1830 onwards with honorary guests from Aarhus Business School in Denmark. All you have to do is show up. We hope as many of you as possible will be able to make it to our first event of the year!
2. There will be a Nordic Ambassador's Panel discussion just like last year on 23rd February 18-20 in D502 followed by a reception in the Senior Common Room with beverages and snacks provided. This event was a success last year, and we expect it to be even better this year, so don’t miss out!
3. For those who are interested in innebandy (floorball), we are going to organize a match against the LSE Floorball Society to be held soon. If you are interested please reply to this email with your name and INNEBANDY in the subject line. We will keep then keep you posted on when this play-off is going to take place.
4. The Danish minister of Employment is coming on the 16th March to host a debate on the Danish model of flexicurity; how it is relatively complex and among other things requires an active labour market policy as well as trust in both politicians and the social partners; whether the model can survive globalisation and a financial crisis; and if it is relevant for other countries. The debate will be followed by a reception.

Our annual christmas dinner is in full swing and all systems are go for Tuesday 9th December 2008. We will be having pre-dinner drinks next to the Peacock Theater at 19:30 and dinner will be served in the lovely Parish Hall at the LSE (right by the Peacock Theater again). We will be serving glogg (warm mulled wine) with snacks to keep you warm and to galvanize your appetite and dinner should start at just about 20:15.
Finally, for those of you who have yet to purchase a ticket and are interested in coming, fear not, we have decided to sell some final tickets on Monday from roughly 11:00 to 15:00. If you cannot make this slot, or unforseen circumstances prevent us from selling (eg Rain) then please email us by 17:00 on Monday to request tickets. Since we unfortunately dont have an endless stream of food, we have to limit our numbers so as to make the dinner as good as possible! So be sure to buy tickets or to email us rather than showing up at the door! For those emailing, you will receive a confirmation email regarding your reservation.

for our highly lauded and anticipated Scandinavian Christmas dinner, to be held on Tuesday, 9 December (week 10). This event is of the same caliber as our previously successful gatherings, and will offer you the opportunity to feast on Scandinavian delicacies including Smoked Salmon, Christmas Ham, Herring and Gingerbread cookies. We are also pleased to announce that we will have an exclusive 'Glogg' (thats mulled wine to the non-Scandinavians) bar as well as music and entertainment.
Tickets can be bought for a bargain:

Non-Members: £14 (includes annual membership fee)
and are being sold on a highly limited basis, so we encourage you to get in early! We look forward to seeing you during the week!

1. The Danish Embassy has kindly agreed to provide interested members of the Scandinavian Society with a tour of the Danish Embassy on Thursday, November 27th!, please contact our Events Officer while places are still available, Yancey (y.j.westerfield@lse.ac.uk)
2. We are well into the process of planning the Christmas Dinner and are still in need of more volunteers to help out. 1. Do we really need to remind you about the Scandinavian Party at the Porterhouse, 20:00 Tuesday 18th November?? We have also decided that the EVENT WILL NOT BE TICKETED, which means you are welcome to just show up! Those who have already paid will be refunded at the party by our treasurer, Gustaf.
2. The Finnish Society has kindly offered us tickets to the presentation held by Alexander Stubb, Finnish Foreign Minister, November 20th at 17:50. Ticket includes entry to the presentation and the following reception. Due to a high level of interest, we can only guarantee tickets on a first come, first-serv basis. 5. The proposed Societies Football tournament has been postponed until further notice. If you feel extremely adverse to this, we suggest you direct your anger towards the Germans (su.soc.german@lse.ac.uk)

Porterhouse
Do we really need to remind you about the Scandinavian Party at the Porterhouse, 20:00 Tuesday 18th November?? We have also decided that the EVENT WILL NOT BE TICKETED, which means you are welcome to just show up! Those who have already paid will be refunded at the party by our treasurer, Gustaf.
